Endicott College Celebrates Aspiring High School Artists

Beverly, MA - In recognition of aspiring young artists from the region, Endicott College is hosting the second annual High School Art Competition 2013, works from 60 students from high schools in Amesbury, Beverly, Bishop Fenwick, Danvers, Hamilton-Wenham Regional, Ipswich, Landmark, Masconomet Regional, Newburyport, Peabody Veterans Memorial, Pentucket Regional, Pingree, Revere, Salem, The Waring School, Lynn Classical, Lynn English, and Manchester-by-the-Sea.  This juried exhibit will consist of sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have been chosen by their Art instructors to take part in this prestigious exhibition, and numerous Award Winners will be selected by Al Miner, curator at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. 

The exhibition will on view in the Walter J. Manninen Center for the Arts, Endicott College, 376 Hale Street, Beverly from Thursday, February 14 – Friday, April 12, 2013. Gallery hours are Monday – Thursday:  9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.; Friday:  9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday:  2 – 4 p.m.  The public is invited to attend the Reception on Thursday, March 7, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with the Awards Ceremony at 6:00 p.m.

 With reduced public funding for the arts, including a decline in high school arts curricula, it has become ever more important for those with resources to share. In this spirit, the Walter J. Manninen Center for the Arts at Endicott College has become a vibrant community resource, hosting tens of thousands visitors annually. “Promoting the arts, and promoting careers in art and design fields, are primary objectives for the School of Visual and Performing Arts,” stated Mark Towner, Dean of the School at Endicott. Adding, “The intensive internship and applied learning requirements of the College contributes to very successful career outcomes for its alumni.” 

“The North Shore and the greater Boston metropolis has a deep history of producing successful and world-renowned artists,” said Dean Mark Towner, continuing, “I am proud that Endicott College strives to carry on that rich tradition by hosting these superb young artists in High School Art Competition 2013.” To that end the School of Visual and Performing Arts offers six degree programs that help artists secure creative careers, including; Creative Arts Therapy, Interior Design, Graphic Design, Photography, Studio Art, and Interior Design. This competition is made possible with support from the Bruce T. Halle Family Foundation.  Funding of this sort helps Endicott provide substantive programming to individuals and organizations who might not otherwise have access to the arts.
