Endicott Singers’ Pops Concert: Off the Hook

BEVERLY – Consistent with their mission of exploring all musical genres, the versatile Endicott Singers and guests take on pop, rock, hip hop and country with their usual flair.  Performances take place on Thursday, May 2, Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4 at 7:30 pm at Tia’s Theater, Manninen Center for the Arts, Endicott College, 376 Hale Street, Beverly.  General admission is $10, free for EC Identification holders. Price includes desserts and soft drinks to enjoy during the show.

The group will perform in a “pops” setting with café tables, refreshments, and club ambiance. The singers will perform as a chorus and also with frequent feature soloists and a live band. With the select women’s choir, Harmonelle and select men’s group, Bassline, as well as guest student performers from this spring’s Songwriting course, this concert promises Endicott’s talent as you’ve never seen it before!

Earlier this spring, the Endicott Singers, led by Marblehead native Rebecca Kenneally, collaborated with guests from Northeastern University and the New England Conservatory of Music in another contemporary program called Hip Hop and Hope which explored how Gospel and Spiritual music connect to messages of hope in hip hop music. Songs like Tennessee by Arrested Development and Where is the Love by the Black Eyed Peas, performed at that event, will be performed again at the pops event – along with even newer favorites such as Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Some Nights by Fun.

            “These popular songs are some of the new classics,” Kenneally said. “But I know there will be something for everyone – for example, M.L.K. by the band U2 is so resonant and moving, while the song Thankful by Kelly Clarkson is so jazzy and soulful. It’s an eclectic mix, to be sure.”

Tickets are $10 general admission, and free for EC ID holders. The price of admission includes delicious desserts and soft drinks for enjoyment during the show.
