Bridge Problems Delay Tuesday Night Commuters
The Beverly drawbridge got stuck open on Tuesday night, causing commuter delays.

A railroad drawbridge - that for years has bedeviled commuters - again caused problems for Tuesday's night commute.
The railroad drawbridge connecting Beverly and Salem over the Danvers River got stuck open, meaning train could not pass, at about 5:30 p.m., according to Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad Co., which operates the trains for the T.
An electrical failure caused the bridge to get stuck open at 5:33 p.m.

"Crews were able to make the necessary repair and close the bridge at 6:11 p.m.," said Rhiannon D'Angelo, an MBCR spokeswoman.
Trains headed to and from Beverly Depot experienced delays ranging from 11-50 minutes because of the stuck bridge.

The bridge has been the source of frustration for several years, including a stretch of time in 2008 where several incidents where the bridge was repeatedly stuck open brought state officials to Beverly to come up with a fix for the 125-year-old bridge.
