Cabot Marking 50th Anniversary Of Woodstock

David Crosby and Jefferson Starship are among the acts scheduled to appear at the Beverly theater.

From The Cabot: The Cabot is excited to announce a partnership with The David Bieber Archives to present a Woodstock-themed exhibit entitled “Back To The Garden: 1969 & The Woodstock Era” starting this week. Over 150 pieces of authentic posters, underground comics, anti-drug pamphlets, autographed album covers and other unique items from the Archives will pay homage to the 50th anniversary of Woodstock and the culture and news of 1969. A slideshow with additional imagery will offer a complimentary visual impact to the exhibit.

The David Bieber Archives collection provides a unique insight into how people lived, what they experienced and what culture was doing to influence the population in 1969, many of those issues being relevant to today’s social and cultural climate. The exhibition will be free and open to the public at The Cabot between the hours of 3:00-5:00pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, June 17 through September 18. Patrons with tickets to events will be able to view exhibit one hour prior to live concerts, and 30 minutes before films. Additional viewing times will be extended to the public at times to be announced throughout the summer.

“We went through hundreds of artifacts to select the best and most diverse items to represent both the era and The Cabot’s upcoming acts, as well as to design and fit the various available spaces in this beautiful classic theater,” said David Bieber, President and Curator of The David Bieber Archives. “When you consider how creative and fertile the era was, there are so many things from that period to draw on... we’re drawing from some twenty different categories of materials. The exhibit will add another layer to enhance the experience that attendees receive at The Cabot.”

The partnership between The Cabot and the David Bieber Archives came about as a result of many conversations between The Cabot’s Executive Director J. Casey Soward and Bieber, where they found common ground in how the combination of both the performing and visual arts can create a “powerful multi-dimensional experience for the patron.” Throughout the timespan of the exhibit, items will be switched out to provide a variety of visual and audio experiences to complement The Cabot’s summer lineup.

The Cabot is planning several Woodstock anniversary-themed shows including:

“As a nonprofit performing arts center, we feel it is our duty to present art in a variety of forms,” said J. Casey Soward, Executive Director of The Cabot. “While the Woodstock exhibit is our first experiment in this realm, it is our hope that after the initial success of this exhibition, that future collaborations and exhibitions with The David Bieber Archives will be possible and grow organically to complement and enhance the future programmatic initiatives of The Cabot.”
