“We are thrilled to receive this grant award that will make downtown Beverly safer for pedestrians and bikers and will help our businesses by continuing to make outdoor dining attractive“, said Mayor Michael Cahill. “Thank you to the Baker-Polito administration and MassDOT for awarding these critical grant funds to help our businesses recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The Shared Streets Program was created to help municipalities meet the need for more and safer outdoor recreation, commerce, community activities, and mobility amid the ongoing public health crisis. The primary goal of the grant program is to invest in local downtowns by repurposing streets, plazas, sidewalks, curbs, and parking areas to facilitate outdoor activities and community programming, including but not limited to facilities for eating, shopping, play, and community events and spaces for all ages.
