City Seeking Funding for Bridge Street and Intersection Projects

State and federal funding could help pay for several major roads projects in Beverly

City officials recently announced that they are seeking state and federal funding toward providing safety and operational improvements for two separate transportation improvement projects. The city is currently working with its consultant World Tech Engineering to prepare an application to initiate the review process through the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. The two projects include:

Reconstruction of Bridge Street

The project will provide roadway improvements to upgrade the physical condition, safety and multimodal accommodations of Bridge Street from the Danvers line to the River Street intersection. The project is anticipated to include a new pavement design which will adequately support the volume traffic; ADA-compliant cement concrete sidewalks along the length of the roadway; and safety and operational improvements at key intersections.

Traffic and Safety Improvements for multiple intersections located along Cabot Street at Dodge Street, Cabot Street at Rantoul Street and McKay at Balch Street.

The project will provide roadway improvements to upgrade the physical condition, safety and traffic operations through these critical intersections along Route 1A and adjacent to the proposed middle school, according to city officials. The project is anticipated to include traffic signal improvements to reduce vehicle delays; ADA-compliant cement concrete sidewalks and improved pedestrian crossings; and multimodal accommodations through each intersection.

The funding request will be submitted to the MassDOT project review committee on Oct. 8 with a decision expected from the committee on both of the project requests prior to the end of the year. Once the projects had been approved, the city will begin advancing project plans while seeking federal and state funds to implement the projects. Additional public meetings will be schedule as the project advances through the design process.
