Contested Mayor's Race Highlights City Election

There will be no September primary, general election is on Nov. 3.

A race for mayor tops the Beverly municipal election ballot.

There are no races requiring a September primary in this year’s election, so all the candidates can plan on campaigning straight through until the biennial municipal election on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

The last day for Beverly residents to register to vote for the election is Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 8 p.m.

Incumbent Mayor Mike Cahill is seeking a second term in office.

Prior to being elected mayor, Cahill was a teacher, a state representative, president of the Beverly City Council, and the Executive Director of Massachusetts YMCAs from 2005 through 2014.

Cahill is being challenged by School Committee member David Manzi.

Manzi is calling for a 7th and 8th grade middle school on the high school campus he said could save as much as $70 million over the current middle school building proposal.

He stated that he also wants to help make Beverly a tourist destination on par with Plymouth, Ogunquit, and Newport.

There are also a handful of contested City Council and School Committee races on the ballot.
