Demolition of Memorial Building Begins Next Month

The demolition will pave the way for construction of the new middle school building.

BEVERLY, MA - Demolition of the existing Memorial Building will begin in January to make way for the construction of the new middle school building.

The new middle school is slated to open in the fall of 2018.

In September, the Beverly City Council and the Massachusetts School Building Authority voted unanimously to approve funding for the new middle school project.

The state will cover more than half the cost of the $109 million project.

The proposed building project calls for the construction of a new four-story, 231,509-square-foot building located on the site of the existing Memorial School Building at 502 Cabot Street. The school would serve 1,395 students in grades five through eight.

The demolition of the Memorial Building means several town departments that have been housed there will be on the move.

  • Community Development will be moving to the second floor of City Hall on Cabot Street
  • The Criminal Investigation Division and Traffic Sergeant will be moving to 43 L.P. Henderson Road (Airport) Building #6
  • Municipal Inspection/Building Department will be moving to G.A.R. Hall on 8 Dane Street
  • Veterans’ Services will be moving to 62 Pleasant Street
