BEVERLY – Montserrat has begun the first semester of 2022 with news of significant success among their faculty. Dr. Kate Farrington, Corinne Reid, and Julia Csekö have all been subject of recent recognition which highlights the exceptional quality of Montserrat’s faculty.

Assistant Professor, Dr. Kate Farrington of Beverly, has successfully defended her dissertation at the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts, and is now officially a Doctor of Philosophy. Dr. Farrington’s dissertation, entitled “Place-as-Medium: Towards a Shared Authorship of Place” establishes a new philosophical framework to understand and evaluate a particular category of art practice appearing in the world whose primary medium, it can be said, works through the aesthetics of place.

Assistant Professor and alumna Corinne Reid (’11) of Saugus has won this year’s Chesley Award for Hardcover Book Illustration. The Chesley Awards are given each year by the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists to recognize “individual works and achievements in a given year.” Reid winning design is for Encounters with the Imaginary Vol. 3, a collection of fantasy illustrations edited by Jeszika Le Vye and Kira Night and published through Boneshaker Press.

Adjunct faculty Julia Csekö of Somerville has been named one of MassCreative’s inaugural Create the Vote Fellows. The fellowship is a yearlong learning community for grassroots organizers focused on building advocacy, creating knowledge, and sustaining political power in Massachusetts’ arts and cultural sector. Csekö brings years of organizational experience stemming from her time living in Rio de Janeiro, where she was part of a group who successfully demanded an increase from 0.3% to 1% of the Brazilian national budget to be dedicated to Arts and Culture.

Montserrat is gratified to see the abilities and accomplishments of our faculty recognized, and look forward to following their continued success in the future.
