First Vaccine-Only Pharmacy To Open In Beverly

NIMVAX will open at the Cummings Center on Dec. 4 providing coronavirus and other vaccinations by appointment.

BEVERLY, MA — Beverly's Cummings Center will soon be home to what is being called the first vaccine-only pharmacy in the United States.

NIMVAX will open at 600 Cummings Center and will offer a wide variety of vaccinations to those 9 years old and older, including coronavirus, influenza, hepatitis and shingles.

Pharmaceutical professional Dr. Nimit Deocampo said that since NIMVAX will focus only on vaccinations it will be able to ensure prompt, safe service in a comfortable environment for all patients, compared to pharmacies that offer a wide range of retail services.

"Most patients want to go the pharmacy for vaccines because they prefer a smaller, more private space and pharmacists are one of the most trusted and accessible health care providers," Deocampo said. "I wanted to help and offer this service to these types of patients while providing a response to the urgent need for vaccination during the pandemic."

Deocampo said the vaccination pharmacy is also part of an education campaign dedicated to promoting recommended immunization amid the disparity between the demand and delivery system of the vaccines, especially in underserved communities. He said making the process simple, safe and comfortable will help combat vaccine-hesitancy.

"The pandemic has demonstrated that we have to be more proactive and to move away from the culture of being reactive," he said. "Prevention is better than cure and we can start this proactive culture by immunizing our children to ensure a long-lasting impact."
