Is the Prides Crossing Post Office Slated to Close?
The Prides Crossing post office has been missing from the U.S. Postal Service's online post office database and local postal service properties have been put up for sale, prompting the question.

The Prides Crossing post office – one of three post offices in Beverly and one of the smallest on the North Shore – is not slated for closing, according to U.S. Postal Service officials.
The question of its future came up recently for two reasons – it has been left off a USPS online lookup of post office locations and the Postal Service has begun to sell off some properties as the service works to break even. Last quarter, the Postal Service lost $1.9 billion.
Locally, no Postal Service properties are on the market. The closest property for sale is in Somerville, where a 22,000 square foot building on 2/3 of an acre is priced at $2.4 million.

The small Prides Crossing office, on Thissell Street, just off Hale Street, is open 45 hours a week and is closed for an hour at lunch each weekday as is done at most small post offices on the North Shore. Also in Beverly is the main post office on Rantoul Street across from Beverly Depot and the Beverly Farms post office on West Street. The postal service also runs a large mail sorting facility that does not offer any retail services on Tozer Road.
“I'm told that there is no pending action (for the Prides Crossing post office),” said Postal Service spokeswoman Christine Dugas.

Dugas also said that postal officials are checking their database to find out why the Prides Crossing database is not listed on the usps.com directory of post office locations. It has been missing from the website for at least the past two months.
