“Making Waves for the 2025 Sawyer Free” at The Cut

Get ready to make a splash as Sawyer Free Library invites you to a community-wide celebration, "Making Waves for the 2025 Sawyer Free," at The Cut located at 177 Main Street in Gloucester. Dive into the fun this Sunday, April 28, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and usher in summer early with an unforgettable fun afternoon of live music, beach games and summer vibes for all ages.

"We are thrilled to invite the community to join us for 'Making Waves for the 2025 Sawyer Free,' a celebration of progress and excitement," said Mern Sibley, the president of the Library's Board of Trustees. "This family-friendly event is an opportunity for everyone to shake off the last vestiges of winter and soak up the warmth of community spirit while catching a glimpse of what's on the horizon for the 2025 Sawyer Free Library."

Headlining the afternoon will be "Moonraker," Gloucester's very own Mayor's band featuring Amy Prichard on lead vocals and guitar, Adam Quinn on drums, Missy Sponagle lending her vocal talents, Nate Kidder on lead guitar, Mayor Greg Verga on bass, and a special guest appearance by Millie Manning from Millie and the Half Nelsons on vocals and keyboard.

Adding to the summertime vibe, local reggae sensation the "Dis n’ Dat band" will kick off the party, setting the stage for an afternoon filled with family-friendly beach games, prizes, and other surprises. Plus, expect insightful remarks about the 2025 Sawyer Free Library, offering a sneak peek into the exciting developments ahead.

The comprehensive renovation, modernization, and expansion of Gloucester's public Library officially broke ground this past September. In February, the Library celebrated the beam topping ceremony, placing the final beam adorned with over 400 signatures of people from throughout the community and beyond, marking the conclusion of the structural phase of this historic project.

Progress continues as structural steelwork is complete in the existing building and the new addition, with slabs on the deck installed in both structures. Interior framing and preliminary mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering work in the existing building and exterior framing of the new addition are underway. The project is anticipated to open to the public in the summer of 2025.

When its doors open, the 2025 Sawyer Free Library will be a 21st-century public library serving as an educational, cultural, civic, and community hub for learning, collaboration, and innovation. The new spaces of the 2025 Sawyer Free Library will amplify the Library's ability to deliver services and have a transformational impact on Gloucester and communities across Cape Ann.

The 2025 Sawyer Free Library capital campaign continues progressing alongside construction efforts, already having raised close to 60% toward its $29 million goal. The Library invites the community to learn how to get involved and support this vital project at 2025.sawyerfreelibrary.org.
