Man Killed In Salem Commuter Rail Strike
The police activity caused the cancellation of the last scheduled service from North Station on the Rockport/Newburyport line Monday night.
BEVERLY, MA — Late-night commuter rail service from North Station to the North Shore on the Rockport/Newburyport line was canceled Monday night after a man was struck and killed in Salem.
Salem police said the man was hit at about 9:30 p.m. Police said officers began lifesaving measures before care was turned over to the Salem Fire Department and Atlantic Ambulance paramedics.
"The male was transported to the North Shore Medical Center but sadly was pronounced deceased a short time later," Salem police said in a release.

Commuter rail service was disrupted throughout much of the night because of the police activity near the Beverly/Salem line for another incident involving a person struck in the right of way starting at about 8:30 p.m.

After a delay in service and the use of shuttle buses to complete the routes of the 8:50 p.m. and 9:35 p.m. trains in either direction, the 11 p.m. train from North Station outbound was canceled with riders notified that they must find alternative travel options back to the North Shore.
Service on the line resumed Tuesday morning.
