Montserrat Begins 2023 Pre-College Program

High school-aged students visit the art college for 3-week summer intensive.

BEVERLY – Montserrat College of Art’s annual Pre-College Program is in full swing! High School aged artists from across the country are living in Beverly on Montserrat’s campus to participate in Montserrat’s three-week intensive program. This year’s class includes students from across the northeast and from as far as Florida and Louisiana.

The program, which Montserrat has been running for more than a decade, gives students aged 16 and older a chance to experience life at an art college while enhancing their portfolios for future art college admissions applications. Students take classes led by the same talented faculty that instruct Montserrat’s college-aged population during the academic year or by other working artists and professors from across the northeast. Every student takes a Foundation class in either Drawing or Digital and Interactive Media. Additionally, students select elective courses covering a diverse range of subjects such as animation, illustration, printmaking, 3D design and creative writing.
In addition to their coursework, students will enjoy field trips to the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, as well as local trips to the Beverly Farmer’s Market, Dane Street Beach, and the Castle board game café. Students will also attend a talk with Montserrat’s first Artist-in-Residence, Amanda Beard-Garcia.
