Montserrat College of Art Welcomes 375 Students to Campus Saturday August 24, 2019.
BEVERLY – Montserrat College of Art welcomed freshmen and transfer students to campus on Saturday, with returning students moving in over the weekend through the beginning of the week as the first day of classes nears on Wednesday. (Aug. 28)
The college has seen a level enrollment since last year and will expect about 375 students, approximately 80% of whom live on and near campus. Sixty-nine percent of the new students are from New England, with 43% of those coming from Massachusetts. Sixteen percent are from New York and New Jersey and the campus is excited to welcome international students from Japan.
Montserrat’s housing is apartment-style so students are well integrated into the community to shop, study, work and live. President Kurt T. Steinberg continues to drive the college into new territory by traveling internationally to bring new cultural opportunities to Beverly and introducing new technological initiatives that modernize the college and enhance the core programs of visual art, graphic design, animation, and much more. Montserrat continues to offer ten concentrations within the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program as well as Continuing Education courses open to the greater community with the fall session beginning September 28.

The semester kicks off publicly the main Montserrat Gallery at 23 Essex St., the Hardie Building, on Sept. 5 from 5-8 pm for a reception celebrating an exhibition by Cuban artist, Adrián Fernández. Recently awarded the “Best Art Gallery – Reader’s Choice” by the Northshore Magazine’s Best of North Shore (BONS), Montserrat boasts five unique galleries, including one that is student run, all with diverse contemporary programming all free and open to the public.
Montserrat College of Art is a private, residential college of visual art and design supporting the creative life by educating artists and entrepreneurs for a rapidly changing world. At the intersection of art, design and technology, the college offers three international programs, 12 concentrations and a required internship program.

Montserrat alumni are employed by some of the country's biggest brands including Disney, Puma, Hasbro and more. Students earn the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and develop their skills for success in today's growing creative economy. The college also offers year-round classes for youth, teens and adults through its Continuing Education Division, and has four public galleries offering year-round programs, exhibitions and lectures. www.montserrat.edu
