Montserrat College of Art hires experienced academic to lead the faculty and curriculum

New Academic Dean at Montserrat College of Art

BEVERLY, MA – Montserrat College of Art has named Brian Pellinen as the new Academic Dean. An experienced dean and educator, Pellinen comes to Montserrat from Endicott College, where he served as Academic Dean of Professional Studies. Prior to Endicott, he served as Vice President of Academic Affairs at Nashua Community College. He previously served as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at Montserrat from 2005 to 2009 making him uniquely qualified to return to the downtown Beverly college.

Pellinen, of Salem, brings to Montserrat his experience working in student services, curriculum and program development at both high school and college level. He is an accomplished administrator and educator.

He received an MA in English from York University, Toronto, Ontario and a BA in English from the University of Minnesota.

Montserrat President Steve Immerman said, “I believe Brian to be the perfect choice for Montserrat at this pivotal point in the continuing growth of the college because of his knowledge of academics/curriculum, accreditations, relationship-building and strategic planning.”

Pellinen replaces Laura Olmstead Tonelli who served as the academic dean for nearly 12 years and will be returning to the faculty as a professor of art history.

“The college has a strong foundation here in downtown Beverly,” Pellinen said, “and I'm excited to have a chance to help shape the direction of the college's growth and seeing how we work with and impact our local North Shore community.”

Montserrat College of Art is a four-year college of art and design in Beverly, MA educating the designers and artists who will solve the problems of tomorrow through their work in the creative economy. One of the first art colleges in the nation to require internships, the college now has design professionals at some of the country’s biggest brands, including Disney, Puma, Hasbro and more.
