NIGHT TO SHINE PROM

Beverly, MA (February 12, 2017) – This past Friday, February 10, North Shore Community Baptist Church and Boston North Shore Young Life hosted Night to Shine, a prom for people with special needs ages ranging from 14-70. Night to Shine welcomed the honored guests with a red carpet, a cheering crowd and friendly paparazzi and, once inside, delivered the royal treatment, including hair and makeup stations, shoe shining stations, corsages and boutonnieres, a karaoke room and, of course, dancing. The highlight of the night came when each guest was crowned king or queen of the prom.

The Tim Tebow Foundation sponsored this unforgettable prom night experience centered on God’s love for people with special needs in more than 375 churches in 50 states, 11 countries and 28 different denominations simultaneously on February 10, 2017 from 6-9 pm. This is a 850% growth from its inaugural prom three years ago! North Shore Community Baptist Church would hope that other churches in the area would be willing to join in hosting the event next year.

Night to Shine in Beverly welcomed 94 honored guests and 110 parents and caregivers. Over 252 volunteers from North Shore Community Baptist Church, Young Life, Gordon College, Gordon-Conwell Seminary and the community, worked to make the evening special. The catering for the event was provided by the Blue Marlin in Essex and Ipswich Clam Bake in Ipswich. The decorations were provide by Build A Party in Marlborough, MA.

Pictures from this years event will be available on North Shore Community Baptist Church’s website later this week; www.nscbc.org/nighttoshine/

Quotes from the night:

“I was deeply touched by the pride and joy I could see in the eyes of the parents of the young woman who was my buddy. They enjoyed seeing her having so much fun. The father had a camera and so proudly documented the special moments of his daughter’s evening such as when she stood in front of a supportive crowd and sang karaoke, or when she was crowned with a tiara. It felt as if we have a lot to learn from our guests who so openly expressed gratitude, who eagerly thanked and met new people, who cheered each other on with wild abandon, and who sang and danced joyfully without inhibitions. They reminded me of the power of letting go of social barriers I sometimes put up when feeling self-conscious.” -Night to Shine Volunteer

During the crowning ceremony one of the parents said she and her daughter live in the city, and they drove an hour in rush hour traffic to make it to the event. She said, “That when the MC said God loved each person in the room and that each person was created by God and was special to Him, this truly touched me. I know that God loves me and my daughter, but it meant so much to hear and be reminded of God's love for us. I am so thankful for this night when my daughter could dance the night away on the dance floor and where we could be reminded of God's love for us.”-Night to Shine Parent
