Obituary: Barbara (Bennett) Nelson, Longtime Member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church

She was a delegate for the Democratic State Convention for several years.

Barbara (Bennett) Nelson 73, beloved wife of Lawrence Nelson, died Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the Essex Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Beverly.

Born and raised in Maine, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Edna (Carver) Bennett. She graduated from Nasson College in Springvale, ME and earned her Master’s Degree in Critical Thinking from the University of Massachusetts in Boston.

Mrs. Nelson had been employed for twenty years as a high school teacher in the Georgetown school system until the time of her retirement in 2002. She was also the past President of the Teachers’ Union.

A resident of the City of Beverly for the past forty six years, she was a longtime member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Beverly. She has also been a delegate for the Democratic State Convention for several years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her husband with whom he shared forty five years of marriage, she is survived by a daughter, Susan N. Barrowclough and her husband, William of Nottingham, NH, a son, Michael R. Nelson and his wife, April of Beverly, five grandchildren, Felicia, Amy and Jessica Barrowclough and Lily and Amelia Nelson and a brother, Sidney Bennett.
