Obituary: John Robert Carroll; Gardener, Dedicated Bird Watcher, Avid Reader and History Buff

Veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Navy on the USS New Jersey Battle Ship from 1951-1954.

John Robert Carroll, age 86, died unexpectedly yesterday at home. He is survived by a wife, Barbara Ann, three children: Jane Pearce Carroll of Danvers, James Walter Carroll of Beverly Massachusetts and John Michael Carroll and his wife Kathy of Ridgefield Connecticut. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Morgan, Madison, Mikaela, Aaron, McKenzie & Hailey Carroll. He is also survived by two brothers Edward and his wife Dolores Carroll and Leo and his wife Carol Carroll both of Beverly & a sister Verna Pennel predeceased him.

Jack was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Navy on the USS New Jersey Battle Ship from 1951-1954. The son of Michael & Lillian Carroll he grew up in Beverly attending Beverly High School and pursued a degree at Burdett College. At a college dance Jack met the love of his life Barbara Ann Hall, whom he married in 1955.

Jack enjoyed gardening and took pride in his prize rose garden and was a dedicated bird watcher. He was an avid reader and a history buff filled with knowledge of historical events both nationally and internationally. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and attending Naval Reunions. He and Barbara shared a love of travel, dance & laughter.
