Obituary: Martin R. Dunn, Gourdeau Construction Company

World War II Navy Veteran; served on the USS Missouri.

Martin R. Dunn, 88, beloved husband of Joan E. (Gourdeau) Dunn, died Wednesday, February 25, 2015 after a brief illness.

Born in Beverly, he was the son of the late Andrew and Signe (Peterson) Dunn. He was raised and educated in Wenham and Hamilton.

An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Navy aboard the USS Missouri. Mr. Dunn began his career at General Electric. In 1956 he joined the family business, Gourdeau Construction Company, where he worked for his father-in-law Henry Gourdeau. Later, he and his brother-in-law, Richard Gourdeau, would continue the business into its third generation. He retired in 2001.

In addition to his wife with whom he shared 64 years of marriage, he is survived by a daughter, Deborah Dunn of Marblehead, a son, Martin Dunn, Jr. and his wife, Dana of McLean, VA, two grandchildren, Michael Dunn and his wife, Lillian of New York City and Kelsey LaPiere and her husband, Reggie of Phoenix, AZ, two great grandchildren, Alice and Barrow Dunn, sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Ober, Jean Larchez, and Gail Jacus and her husband, Jake, brother-in-law, Richard Gourdeau and his wife, Connie and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Alice Miller and her husband, Jim and John Dunn and his wife, Roz.

Funeral services will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly Monday from 4 - 7 p.m. Burial in the Hamilton Cemetery. Information, directions at www.campbellfuneral.com .
