Obituary: Peter E. Young, 69, Professor of Urban Forestry at the Essex Agricultural Institute and North Shore Community College For 35 Years

U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran

Peter E. Young 69, formerly of Essex, beloved husband of Vicky Young, died unexpectedly, Monday, January 12, 2015 at his home.

Born and raised in Boston, he was the son of the late Peter and Catherine (Burke) Young. He received his education in the Boston school system and earned both his Bachelor’s Degree and post graduate studies in education and forestry from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Vietnam Era as a member of the United States Army.

Mr. Young had been employed for thirty five years as a professor of Urban Forestry at the Essex Agricultural Institute and the North Shore Community College in Danvers until the time of his retirement in 2009.
A resident of Beverly for the past fourteen years, he was an active parishioner of St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in Beverly.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Jessica Fee and her husband, Monte of Gardner, three sons, Joel Young and his wife, Asayo of CA, Lucas Young and his wife, Melissa of NJ and Armen Young of Beverly, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two sisters, Joan M. Mercier of Norwood and Ann Mandile of SC and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Janet Riordan.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot St., Beverly, Friday, January 16, 2015 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Thursday from 4 - 7 p.m. Burial in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beverly.
