Obituary: Robert Gardner Young, Former President of Schutter-Young Corp.

Enlisted in the U.S. Navy and went to officers training school. During World War II he was commissioned on the USS Vigor.

Robert Gardner Young, of Beverly died peacefully on March 2, 2015 at age 93. Robert (Bob) was predeceased in 2009 by his beloved wife of 62 years, Alice Lyman Young. Mr. Young is survived by his daughter Andrea (Andi) Young Clark and son, Christopher Lyman Young and his spouse Susan Ritter Young. Bob has three grandchildren, Robert L. Clark, Sarah G. Young and Erik M. Young.

Bob was born in Detroit, Michigan and shortly thereafter, moved with his family to Belmont, MA. He graduated from Belmont High School class of 1939 and enlisted in the United States Navy and went to Officers Training School. During WWII he was commissioned on the USS Vigor returned to Boston and went on to Dartmouth College to teach navigation. Bob received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1944 from Northeastern University. He was President of Schutter-Young Corporation before his retirement.

Mr. Young had many passions in his life, first and foremost were his family and his dogs (Poppy, Holy, Daisy and Ginger). He was an avid sailor, navigating the eastern seaboard in his 1905 gaff rigged yawl, the Quill II. He moored his sailboat at the Jubilee Yacht Club in Beverly, and maintained a long time membership at Eastern Yacht Club in Marblehead. Bob and Alice, family members and friends often spent time sailing or cruising along the coast of New England. He was also a licensed pilot who could often be found departing Beverly airport on business trips.

Arrangements are by Campbell-Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home of Beverly. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Bedford VA Hospice, Attention:Voluntary/Hospice Program, 200 Springs Road, Bedford, MA 01730 in memory of Robert G. Young.
