Signatures Submitted, Citywide Vote Likely on Brimbal Rezoning
More than 4,000 signatures were submitted to the Beverly City Clerk on Tuesday, a move that could likely lead to a citywide vote on the rezoning of land near exit 19 off Brimbal Avenue.

More than 4,000 signatures were submitted to the City Clerk on Tuesday, a move that could likely prompt a citywide vote on whether to rezone 2.5 acres of land along Brimbal Avenue to allow the construction of a shopping plaza.
The signatures were gathered, and submitted, by a group named North Beverly Neighborhood Association. On a blog titled “Save Brimbal Avenue,” the group said that 4,422 signatures were submitted by Tuesday’s deadline to request the City Council rescind a vote last month to rezone the land. Certified signatures from total of 12 percent of the city’s registered voters, or about 3,050 signatures, need to be submitted to force the vote.
On Tuesday, 495 pages of signatures were submitted, following an earlier submission of 503 pages, totaling 4,422 signatures, or more than 50 percent of what is required.
