Police: Beverly Woman Twice the Legal Limit for Alcohol When She Allegedly Struck Trooper

A woman who allegedly hit a state police officer on Route 1 after Monday Night’s Patriots game was intoxicated, according to prosecutors.

Catherine Williams, 29, of Beverly, was arraigned in Wrentham District Court Tuesday according to the Boston Herald. A not guilty plea for the charge of drunken driving was entered on her behalf.

Shortly before midnight, Williams left Gillette Stadium when she struck a state trooper directing traffic on Route 1. The prosecutor told the court that officers could smell the strong odor of alcohol on her breath, her words were slurred when she spoke, and she was unsteady on her feet.

Williams told police that she had only one glass of wine at the game. She was taken into custody after failing sobriety tests and registering a blood alcohol level of 0.15, nearly double the legal limit.

Williams is free on her own recognizance but must pay $1,500 if she misses her next court date on Jan. 12. She was also ordered by the judge to remain alcohol-free and submit to random alcohol screenings.
