Portrait Painting Workshop at Montserrat College of Art

This class focuses on direct observational portrait painting from a live model. The course emphasizes “seeing”, simplifying, and the importance of beginning a painting well. We will discuss color as it relates to skin tones and better understand how to achieve a“likeness” of the sitter. Open to the beginner as well as the advanced painter.Prerequisite: none requiredPrice: $350, non-creditMaterials needed:
16” x 20” canvas or prepared board each class,Paints (oil or acrylic): Titanium white (large tube), naples yellow, lemon yellow, cadmium yellow, cadmium orange, cadmium red, alizarin crimson, cerulean blue, ultramarine blue, viridian green, pthalo greenPalette knife- 2” teardrop shaped suggestedBrushes: min 2 rounds, 2 flats (# 6, #8)Roll of paper towels or painting ragsHandheld mirror, vine charcoal sticks, 2 small containers with lids for medium and solvent
