Re-sellable Vs. R-ecyclable
You can support Beverly Bootstraps and the Beverly Public Schools just by sorting your donations and bringing them to the appropriate place.

There are two organizations in Beverly who will take many of the items you no longer use and turn them into money to support their needs. But to maximize the benefits to each takes a little thought and organization
Beverly Bootstraps Thrift Shop provides almost one third of the revenues that support Beverly Bootstraps’ programs and services by selling gently used and new items in the shop. They rely solely on donations from the community to be able to do so. While they appreciate all donations, items not in sellable condition actually cost them money to dispose of which takes away from their mission.
The Beverly Public Schools receive money for the items deposited in the textile recycling bins located at each school. This revenue goes directly to the PTO’s and is used to directly supports teacher needs, arts and enrichment programming and additional curricular and extra-curricular programming to help improve the school experience for all students. Additionally this recycling saves the city money in trash disposal fees and is good for the environment.

Both organizations take some of the same things (see lists below), but what is donated to the Thrift Shop needs to be in new or almost new condition in order for them to be able to resell it. The school’s recycling bin takes things made out of any type of fabric in any condition (as long as they are clean and dry). When deciding where to donate your unused items, please consider what condition they are in.
Lorinda Visnick, who initiated the textile recycling program in Beverly, 4 years ago, commented “Both organizations really help the community and we hope that residents will be conscientious and sort their donations. Beverly Bootstraps will not take anything with a stain or a hole or out of season. Those items can and should go into the textile recycling box. We stress that ALL textiles should stay out of the waste stream and be brought to one of these two locations. It’s a Win Win!”
