Screen-Free Week is an annual, international celebration when families, schools, and communities swap digital entertainment for the joys of life beyond the screen. Instead of watching TV, surfing the web, or playing with apps and video games, they read, play, think, create, get active, and spend more time with family and friends, according to the website.

In Peabody, Thomas Carroll School students have been participating in “ Screen Free Week”. The week is a nationwide event that encourages children to not watch TV or play video games for one week.

School, community and city officials planned events for students and their families every night of the week. Monday was a “meet & greet” with the mayor and a tour of City Hall, the school hosted a family fitness night on Tuesday and a public library night on Wednesday.

On Thursday, students will visit the Peabody light department, visit the YMCA on Friday, visit Beverly police and fire departments on Saturday, and and hike at Brooksby Farm on Sunday.
