Montserrat College of Art’s Summer 2015 Immersive Program is hosting a workshop on Expressive Interpretations of the Landscape. The natural environment offers exciting visual opportunities for artists, from micro to Google satellite views. In this course, participants explore trees and roots, mountains and rocks, pods and plants, water and clouds. Expressive interpretations are encouraged, incorporating both representational and imaginative elements. Using a variety of drawing and painting media (ink wash, acrylics, charcoal, pastels) on paper (up to 3 x 5’), participants experiment with mark-making techniques, collage, and other inventive contemporary approaches. The work of expressive landscape artists serves as inspiration and context. (Note: In this course, we rely primarily on using photographs from multiple sources.)

Prerequisite: Basic drawing skills
