Tony Schwenson Performance at Montserrat Gallery

Born in Sydney, Australia in 1970, living and working in Boston MA, USA since 2008; Tony Schwensen is one of Australia’s foremost interdisciplinary artists. Interweaving fact, fictions, myth and propaganda, Schwensen’s recent work contrasts the socio-political history of the United States as a behavioral conditioner against the performative behavior of traumatized hominids under incarceration for correctional, rehabilitation, and enforced educational purposes, constructing a version of a history that collapses in on itself through its inherent contradictions, as official histories do under scrutiny.

Montserrat Gallery’s Pop-Ups is a series of “pop-up” exhibitions, a short term event format that has gained in popularity in recent years. Designed to bring people together and known for their energetic atmosphere. Every week features a new theme and a range of related events and a closing reception.
