The War Dept. Comes to Beverly
New Exhibit at Montserrat College of Art's Frame 301 Gallery

A stroll down Cabot Street in Beverly was made even more interesting this week by the opening of The War Dept., a new exhibit at Montserrat College of Art’s Frame 301 Gallery at 301 Cabot Street. Accessible to everyone every hour of every day, the installation is a collaboration by Ruth Bauer and Blyth Hazen.
The War Dept. was adapted from a music theater piece by Jim Bauer and Ruth Bauer that was commissioned by the American Repertory Theater as part of a commemoration of the 150th anniversary of American Civil War. The War Dept. had a workshop performance at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in 2014. In this adaptation, Hazen and Bauer have transformed elements of The War Dept. into a stop action video using puppets and a miniature set. For more information on the exhibit and the artists, visit www.montserrat.edu/portfolio-item/wardept/ or better yet, visit The War Dept. in person.
