What Should Beverly Prioritize For Community Preservation Act Funding?

BEVERLY, MA — Beverly will launch its annual Community Preservation Committee funding designations for 2025-26 with an informational hearing at City Hall in September.

Residents are invited to learn more about the CPA funding and priorities on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.

Beverly adopted the Community Preservation Act in a city-wide vote that took place in November 2012. The CPA establishes a local, dedicated fund for the purpose of undertaking open space, historic preservation, community housing, and outdoor recreation projects that benefit the city, its neighborhoods and residents.

The fund is financed by a dedicated property tax surcharge along with annual funds from the state's CPA Trust Fund.

Since its adoption, more than $10 million dollars has been reinvested in the community through grants to fund 92 projects throughout the city.

Some projects that have received CPA funding over the past 12 years are very visible, such as improvements to the GAR Hall located at 8 Dane Street and upgrades to many of the city's parks. Other projects are less visible such as the conservation of historic documents, the creation of affordable housing, historic preservation projects throughout the city, and the purchase of property for open space, to name a few.
