1 Dead, 5 Rescued In Massive Boston Fire

BOSTON, MA — One person is dead and at least five more were taken to the hospital following a massive fire in East Boston early Tuesday morning, according to the Boston Fire Department.

Heavy fire was reported around 5 a.m. in a multi-family building on Meridian Street and more than 130 firefighters battles the blaze for several hours as smoke filled the neighborhood, officials said.

"The close proximity of the houses has caused the fire to spread to the house next door and to the building in the rear," according to officials.

Around 30 residents and "a couple of birds" have been displaced. Damages are estimated at five million dollars, officials said.
