3-Alarm Fire In Boston Displaces 9, Sends Firefighter To Hospital

Nine people and six pets were displaced, but none of them were injured in the massive fire early Thursday morning.

BOSTON, MA — Two roommates woke up to a fire blazing next door, they jumped out of bed and then alerted everyone else in their building to make sure folks got out safe. Another man woke up to his dogs barking and neighbor telling him to get out. Somehow, all nine people and their pets from two buildings on Boston Street made it out without injuries as flames engulfed two triple deckers early Thursday morning.

Boston Fire officials were called to the fire just before 3 a.m. in Dorchester as flames spread from one triple decker to another.

Commissioner Chief Joe Finn put the estimated damages at $1.25 million, but, he said there were no civilian injuries. One firefighter was taken to the hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening.

Red Cross and Neighborhood Services were out helping residents. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

A resident who's bedroom window faces the Boston St. double deckers that caught fire said he woke up when his dark bedroom suddenly turned bright orange with strange light. Right after that, he said, he heard sirens and saw flashing lights. He went out on his deck and felt the heat from the fire a stone's throw a way. That prompted him to grab a few things, and check on his neighbors.

"BFD were all over it though. Within a half hour they turned a very scary situation into one they were fully in control of. Massive respect," he told Patch in an email.
