Longtime Japanese Eatery Closes In Boston

BOSTON, MA — A longtime Japanese restaurant in Boston is closing its doors for good after this weekend.

Oishii Boston, which first opened in the city's South End more than 27 years ago, announced it would close at the end of the day on Sunday. The Japanese restaurant at 1166 Washington St said it was grateful to customers, staff and the community for supporting the restaurant through “countless first dates, family dinners, and milestone celebrations.”

Oishii’s roots go back to December 1998, when chef Ting Yen opened Oishii Sushi Bar. Patch reported in 2018 that the original Oishii opened in Chestnut Hill before expanding to Sudbury and Boston.

The restaurant’s South End location became known for upscale Japanese dining and sushi. It offers sushi, Japanese, and Asian cuisine, with Chef Ting San listed as executive chef.

“As we prepare to serve our final guests on Father’s Day, we invite you to join us one last time as we celebrate the memories, relationships, and community that made Oishii Boston so special,” the restaurant said in its announcement.
