BOSTON, MA — Police are asking those in attendance at the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular to "take shelter because of impending weather."
Massachusetts State Police made the announcement on X at 6:28 p.m.
"If you are on the oval, please follow staff instructions," police said.
Further updates will be given as they become available, police said.
According to the National Weather Service, a special marine warning is in effect for Massachusetts Bay and Ipswich Bay until 7:45 p.m..
At 6:41 p.m., the NWS said, a strong thunderstorm was located near Boston, moving southeast at 25 knots.
Wind gusts of 34 knots or greater were possible, the NWS said.
"Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves," the NWS said.
Locations impacted include Boston Harbor, Boston Buoy 44013, Boston Light, Broad Sound, Quincy Harbor, Scituate Harbor, and Minot Light, the NWS said.
"Move to safe harbor immediately as gusty winds and high waves are expected," the NWS said.
