Massachusetts Film Industry Leaders to Give the Inside Scoop at FAN EXPO Boston on August 7

Calling all aspiring actors and film lovers. FAN EXPO Boston, the three-day pop-culture extravaganza, will host Massachusetts film industry leaders for a panel, "Making it in the Massachusetts Film Industry," on Friday, August 7, at 6:30 p.m. in Room 160A on Level 1 of the Thomas M. Menino Convention and Exhibition Center. Attendees will hear directly from industry professionals about how to break into Massachusetts' film industry, which has grown over the past 20 years into a major force in the national film and television production landscape.

Massachusetts has established itself as a premier destination for film and television production, thanks to its distinctive and varied locations, highly skilled workforce, and supportive, film-friendly policies.The Massachusetts Film Tax Credit has made a significant contribution to the state's economy since its creation in 2006. More than 325 productions have filmed in over 235 cities and towns, generating more than $3.2 billion and supporting the creation of tens of thousands of new jobs.

The panel includes the top state official overseeing the Mass. film industry, producers, actors, casting directors, talent managers, film festival directors and educators who will share their expertise and tell stories about what it is like to make films in Massachusetts. Panelists have worked on Mass.-made films and television series including Academy award-winners The Holdovers, American Fiction, Good Will Hunting, The Departed, Mystic River, and other notable films made in Massachusetts, Gone Baby Gone, Shutter Island, The Crucible, Mystic Pizza, Bucky F*cking Dent, Lightning in a Bottle (in production), I Wanna Dance with Somebody, and The Town.

·Robin Dawson, Executive Director of the Boston Film Festival and producer of Twin Lights Entertainment

·Sabrina Avilés, Founder/Executive Director of CineFest Latino Boston

·Naheem Garcia, Actor, and teaching artist, appeared in The Holdovers

·Joshua Olumide, Actor, appeared in American Fiction

·Dhanya Lott, Actor, appeared in The Waiting, Turkey Lover, Fatal Family Feuds

·Ted Omsley, Boston-based writer and producer and co-founder of the Southie Film Festival

The Moderator of the panel will be Lisa Simmons, Artistic Director and Curator of the Roxbury International Film Festival.

The panel is free for FAN EXPO Boston attendees. Fans who have Friday, 3-Day Pass, VIP, or Ultimate tickets are welcome to participate.
