BOSTON, MA — A Hyde Park man was arrested after Boston police say he robbed three people at gunpoint in West Roxbury on Monday evening, according to the Boston Police Department.
Xavian Alvarado, 19, was arrested after officers responded to Beechland Circle at approximately 6:13 p.m. and located him a short distance away. He is a resident of the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston.
Police said officers arriving at the scene were flagged down by three male victims who reported they had just been robbed at gunpoint. According to investigators, the victims said they had been approached by a group of six to seven males, one of whom displayed a firearm before stealing a cell phone and a large amount of U.S. currency. The victims described the armed suspect as wearing black pants, a purple sweatshirt, a black camouflage-style mask and a black backpack. They also told police the firearm was silver and had several stickers attached to it.
Officers broadcast the suspect's description and direction of travel over police radio. Police said officers in the area of Blue Ledge Drive located Alvarado, who matched the victims' description. During a pat frisk, officers recovered a firearm from his waistband. Police said Alvarado was also found in possession of a cell phone and a large amount of U.S. currency.
District detectives processed the firearm and determined it was a silver-and-black Smith & Wesson SD40 VE loaded with 14 rounds of .40-caliber ammunition, including one round in the chamber and 13 rounds in the magazine. Police said Alvarado does not have a license to possess the firearm legally.
Alvarado was charged with armed robbery, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a large-capacity firearm, and possession of ammunition without an FID card. He is expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court.
