BOSTON, MA — A man is facing multiple fraud-related charges after Boston Police recovered more than 120 forged ATM and debit cards Tuesday following a traffic stop in Brighton, the department announced.

Nicusor Lazar, 27, was arrested at approximately 12:15 p.m. near Harvard Avenue and Brainerd Road after officers assigned to District D-14 saw a vehicle allegedly run a red light at the intersection of Harvard and Commonwealth Avenues. Officers initiated a traffic stop and recognized Lazar as a person detectives were seeking to identify in connection with an ongoing ATM card fraud investigation, police said.

Lazar reportedly provided officers with an Italian driver's license and a bank card bearing the same name. While speaking with Lazar, officers allegedly saw a large stack of bundled cash in the center console and numerous credit and debit cards in a cup holder.

Police determined Lazar did not have a valid license to operate a vehicle in the United States and took him into custody.

Following an investigation by detectives, police reportedly recovered 124 forged ATM and debit cards and an undisclosed amount of cash. Investigators also determined the Italian driver's license and bank card Lazar initially provided were fraudulent.

Lazar is expected to be arraigned in Brighton District Court on charges of money laundering, two counts of uttering, identity fraud, forgery of an RMV document, and furnishing a false ID to law enforcement.
