U.S. Figure Skating has given three lucky Boston-area fashion school alums the opportunity of a lifetime to create a costume for Olympian Isabeau Levito. Levito and other top skaters, including Olympic champion Alysa Liu, will be in town at the end of August for their annual Champs Camp training week. In addition, U.S. Figure Skating is hosting their first-ever fashion event to celebrate the intersection of their sport and fashion. The event, Figure Skating x Fashion: Styling 2027, will take place Wednesday, August 26 at 7:00 p.m. at View Boston.

U.S. Figure Skating has partnered with the Boston Arts Academy Foundation to select three alumni from the school's Fashion Technology program to each design one costume sketch based on Olympian Isabeau Levito's inspiration for her exhibition program. The sketches will be displayed at the event on August 26 and guests and fans will be able to vote on their favorite via social media. The votes will be tallied and used to support Isabeau's final decision.

"Costumes are such an important part of bringing a program to life, so I'm really excited to see how these talented designers interpret the inspiration behind my exhibition program," Isabeau Levito said. "It's especially meaningful to be able to collaborate with young artists from Boston and give them the opportunity to bring their creativity to the ice. I can't wait to see what they come up with!"

The competing fashion designers are Isabella Castro Correa of Jamaica Plain, Ynez Corea of Mattapan and Cecilia Maria Dominguez Gray of Roxbury, who graduated from Boston Arts Academy in June. This fall, Castro Correa will study fashion design at MassArt, while Corea and Dominguez Gray will study at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Bios and photos of these designers can be found here.

"While talent is equally distributed, opportunity is not. It is the work of individuals, corporations and philanthropy that makes opportunity possible," said Denella J. Clark, President and CEO of Boston Arts Academy Foundation. "Boston Arts Academy was founded on a public-private partnership, and I am grateful for the opportunity for Boston Arts Academy alumni to have their talent recognized and celebrated on a national stage through U.S. Figure Skating. These three alumni represent the creativity, discipline and possibility that can emerge when talent is matched with opportunity."

The public is invited to the Figure Skating x Fashion: Styling 2027 event, which will feature a free-flowing, gallery-style experience of Olympic costumes, concepts, sketches and a behind-the scenes look at how skaters work with designers. Tickets and more information can be found on the website.
