That section of Downtown Crossing is designated for pedestrians and emergency vehicles only, police said.

The officer observed a moped weaving in and out of pedestrians in an attempt to gain access to Washington Street, police said.

As the officer approached the operator, he accelerated, knocking the officer to the ground, police said.

A description of the man and the moped were broadcast, police said.

The officer was evaluated on scene by Boston EMS, and further medical treatment was declined, police said.

Next, on Friday at about about 8:45 p.m., an officer assigned to District A-1 downtown was conducting traffic enforcement in the theater district.

While waiting at a red light at Stuart Street and Washington Street, a vehicle was seen traveling at a high rate of speed in the opposite direction, police said.

The officer asked about the vehicle's registration during a traffic stop and learned that the driver, who was also the registered owner of the vehicle, had an active arrest warrant, police said.

Angel Gonzalez, 22, of Dorchester, was placed into handcuffs, arrested, and is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court for a felony warrant on charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; leaving the scene of personal injury; and failure to stop for police, authorities said.
