Boston Man Arrested After Striking Pedestrian With Vehicle

BOSTON, MA — A man is facing an assault charge after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and critically injured Thursday night in Charlestown, the Boston Police Department announced.

Luis Serrano, 28, of Roxbury, surrendered to detectives at approximately 9:15 p.m. Friday on a warrant issued out of Charlestown District Court for assault to kill. The warrant stemmed from an incident the previous night near 161 Bunker Hill St., police said.

Officers responded to the area at approximately 7:05 p.m. Thursday for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, police found a vehicle that had crashed through a fence and become stuck, but the driver had allegedly fled the scene.

Boston EMS treated the pedestrian before transporting the victim to a local hospital in critical condition, according to police. While investigating, detectives were told that the victim and the driver had been involved in an argument before the incident.

Serrano was also issued a Massachusetts uniform citation for reckless operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in personal injury.

Serrano is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
