2. 4 Indicted In Connection With $12.2M U.S. Treasury Check Fraud Scheme (patch.com) — Federal prosecutors in Boston say four Massachusetts men stole and altered more than $12.2 million in U.S. Treasury checks, then funneled the money through banks and credit unions in and around the Boston area. The men were arrested and appeared in Boston federal court, where they face bank fraud, money laundering, and related charges tied to luxury purchases, real estate, and a separate online banking scam. Potential penalties reach decades in prison if they are convicted.
3. Boston City Council 'mean girl' feud intensifies as Erin Murphy slams Sharon Durkan (bostonherald.com) — A simmering feud on the Boston City Council has intensified, with Councilor Erin Murphy accusing colleague Sharon Durkan of personally and repeatedly blocking her late-file orders on school spending oversight and traffic safety. Durkan says she's enforcing open-meeting rules, but Murphy and ally Ed Flynn argue the pattern delays answers Boston residents want on misused school funds and dangerous street changes.
4. 4,000 Brigham and Women's nurses 'overwhelmingly' vote to authorize open-ended strike (myclallamcounty.com) — Nurses at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston have voted overwhelmingly to authorize an open-ended strike, setting the stage for what could become the largest RN strike in Massachusetts history. No date is set yet, but nurses say they're pushing for safer staffing, affordable health insurance, and fair pay, while hospital leaders have so far resisted their proposals.
5. Fight between teen girls on MBTA bus caught on camera (nbcboston.com) — A fight between several teen girls on an MBTA Route 28 bus in Mattapan spilled into the aisle this week, briefly knocking them into other passengers as one rider recorded the chaos. The witness later posted the video and tagged the MBTA, saying he wanted officials to address such behavior, and transit police now say their juvenile officers are investigating the incident.
