Boston Man Arrested After Attempting To Grab Officer's Gun

The altercation was not the first this man had with police.

BOSTON, MA — A man is facing multiple charges after attempting to disarm a Boston Police officer during an arrest in the South End Sunday evening, according to the department.

Felix Omar David Marrero, 34, was arrested at approximately 7:03 p.m. near 690 Massachusetts Ave. after officers responded to a report of a group of people using drugs outside the entrance of a private residence.

Upon arrival, officers located the group and recognized Marrero from a previous interaction. Marrero initially provided officers with a false name before they were able to confirm his identity and determine that he had two outstanding warrants, police said.

As officers attempted to place Marrero under arrest, he resisted by locking his hands together and refusing multiple commands to comply. A physical struggle ensued and eventually moved into the street amid heavy rain and traffic.

Officers were able to bring Marrero to the ground while requesting additional units to respond. During the struggle, Marrero reportedly attempted to grab an officer's taser but was unsuccessful. After officers briefly regained control, Marrero reportedly grabbed the handle of an officer's firearm in an attempt to disarm him.

Officers were able to remove Marrero's hand from the firearm, and he was subsequently taken into custody with assistance from additional responding units.

Marrero is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges of assault and battery attempting to disarm a police officer, two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct subsequent offense, disturbing the peace, and receiving stolen property.

He also had two outstanding warrants related to drug offenses. The Suffolk Superior Court warrant included charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine subsequent offense, distribution of cocaine subsequent offense, possession with intent to distribute Class A drugs subsequent offense, and distribution of a Class B substance subsequent offense.

The second warrant, issued out of Boston Municipal Court, included charges of possession with intent to distribute Class A drugs and two counts of possession with intent to distribute Class B drugs.
