BOSTON, MA — A teenager is facing multiple charges after Boston Police recovered a loaded handgun during an investigation in Roxbury last week.
The 16-year-old was arrested at approximately 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, near Mount Pleasant Street and Dudley Street after officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force saw a person matching the description of a person believed to be carrying a firearm.
Officers were conducting directed patrols in the area as part of an ongoing firearm investigation following concerns raised by residents, local businesses, and community members. Many of the complaints involved a nearby playground that had been the subject of numerous 911 calls reporting suspected gang activity, drug use, and firearms, according to police.
While patrolling the area, officers observed the teen leaving a convenience store at the corner of Mount Pleasant Street and Dudley Street. The teen reportedly began walking away at a quick pace when officers approached.
Officers stopped the teen and conducted a pat-down frisk, recovering a Taurus G3c 9mm handgun from his waistband. The firearm was loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition, including one in the chamber, and was equipped with a large-capacity magazine.
The teen was taken into custody and is expected to face charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and unlawful possession of a large-capacity feeding device.
The Youth Violence Strike Force consists of Boston Police officers working alongside members of the Boston Housing Police and State Police.
