Malden Natives Bringing Women's Sports Bar Concept To Boston

The idea grew out of a group of local friends who founded Watch With Us Boston in early 2024 to organize women's sports watch parties.

BOSTON, MA — A new sports bar dedicated to showing women's sports is preparing to open in downtown Boston.

The Sports Bra Boston will open at 2 Broad St. in the former Tiki Rock space, with signage advertising a fall 2026 opening. The approximately 3,243-square-foot main level will include a main bar, dining area, portable bar, kitchen, and private dining room, with seating expected for more than 100 customers. A license-transfer application lists Jacqueline Rodriguez as manager and a 2 a.m. closing time, along with a seasonal outdoor patio with 40 seats and a midnight closing time.

The bar will exclusively televise women's sports, including local teams such as Boston Legacy FC, Boston Fleet, Boston Hunters, Boston Guard, Boston Banshees, and local roller derby leagues. The restaurant will be family-friendly and offer vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free menu options. The business also plans to prioritize products from local businesses owned and operated by women.

The idea grew out of a group of local friends who founded Watch With Us Boston in early 2024 to organize women's sports watch parties and community events. Many members of the group grew up together in Malden. The owners considered more than 25 locations before choosing the downtown space and have secured their liquor license while completing remaining permits.

"For us, walking into this space felt like our group chat finally got home-court advantage," co-owner Lydia Coverdale-Perez said in the company's announcement.

The ownership group includes Celia Castro, Angela Cincis, Dana Marie Cincis, Jenelle DeVits, Whitney Edwards, Jacqueline Rodriguez, Laura Coverdale-Perez and Lydia Coverdale-Perez. Kara Pilotte will serve as operations manager.

Several owners have backgrounds in playing and coaching sports. Edwards is a former professional basketball player with 14 years of college women's basketball coaching experience, while Lydia Coverdale-Perez is a former collegiate basketball player and NCAA basketball official. DeVits played Division I basketball and coaches youth sports, and Angela Cincis is a military veteran and former collegiate soccer player.

The group also brings experience in education, hospitality, and community programming. Dana Marie Cincis is a teacher and co-owner of special education advocacy group Empowered 2 Advocate. Rodriguez holds degrees in hospitality management and sport management, Laura Coverdale-Perez works in program management and operations, and Castro is a therapist who owns Heart Movement Practice.

The owners plan to continue hosting pop-up events and watch parties while preparing the restaurant for opening. Menu previews and updates will be shared through The Sports Bra Boston's Instagram and Facebook accounts.

The new bar will be a franchise of the original Sports Bra, which founder Jenny Nguyen opened in Portland, Oregon, in April 2022. The company launched its franchise website in October 2024 following an investment from Alexis Ohanian's 776 Foundation and announced plans to expand to Boston, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, and St. Louis in June 2025.

An official opening date for The Sports Bra Boston has yet to be announced.
