BOSTON, MA — A juvenile is facing multiple firearm charges after police recovered a loaded handgun during a recent traffic stop in Dorchester, according to the Boston Police Department.
The 16-year-old was arrested at approximately 12:40 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, after officers observed a vehicle with excessively tinted windows near the intersection of Quincy Street and Bowdoin Street. Officers subsequently conducted a traffic stop near Adams Street and Winter Street.
Upon approaching the vehicle, officers spoke with the driver and front-seat passenger but were unable to see the individuals sitting in the back. Police reportedly made multiple requests for the rear passengers to roll down their windows, which they initially refused to do.
After several requests, the passengers complied, and officers observed six people sitting in the rear of the vehicle, including one person seated on the floor. Several occupants were not wearing seatbelts, and the vehicle was not equipped to safely accommodate all eight passengers.
Officers began identifying the occupants and requested additional officers to assist at the scene. All passengers were subsequently ordered out of the vehicle, and officers conducted a frisk of the interior.
During the search, officers recovered a firearm underneath the left rear seat. The 16-year-old who had been sitting in that location was placed in handcuffs and transported for booking.
Detectives responded to the scene and identified the weapon as a Glock 30 handgun equipped with a laser attachment. The firearm was loaded with nine rounds of ammunition in the magazine.
The teen is expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court on delinquency charges involving carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and possession of ammunition.
