A 17-year-old was arrested, police say.

BOSTON, MA — A traffic stop in Dorchester led to the discovery of a loaded Glock handgun, police said.

According to the Boston Police Department, the incident took place on Saturday at about 1:42 a.m. Officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) conducted a traffic stop that resulted in the arrest of a 17-year-old male in the area of Hancock Street in Dorchester, police said.

While on patrol in the area of Columbia Road, officers observed a motor vehicle operating with no headlights on, police said.

Officers activated their emergency equipment and initiated a traffic stop in the area, then approached the vehicle and notified the driver of the reason why the vehicle had been stopped, police said.

Officers requested the driver's identification, which he was unable to provide, police said. Officers were able to verify the driver's identity and continued speaking with the occupants of the vehicle — including the operator, front passenger, and two rear passengers, police said.

While speaking with the occupants, officers observed a fanny pack on the floor near the front passenger's feet, and as additional units arrived on scene, officers observed the occupants become increasingly uncomfortable, police said.

Officers began removing the occupants from the vehicle, starting with the front passenger; while removing the front passenger, officers observed the rear female passenger fidgeting with both hands underneath the front passenger's seat, police said.

The rear passenger was then removed from the vehicle, police said.

At that time, the driver exited the vehicle, and was subsequently found to be in possession of a knife, which officers located in his rear pants' pocket, police said.

Finally, the last occupant, the second rear passenger, was removed from the vehicle, police said.

Officers subsequently located a firearm underneath the driver's seat, police said.

All of the occupants were then detained as officers continued their investigation, police said.

Officers arrested the second rear passenger, who was seated behind the driver's seat, police said.

The firearm was determined to be a Glock 43 handgun, loaded with seven rounds of live ammunition and a flashlight attachment, police said.

The 17-year-old suspect, of Roxbury, was expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges including delinquent to wit; carrying a loaded firearm without a license; carrying a firearm without a license; and possession of ammunition without an FID card, police said.

In addition, the driver was issued a Massachusetts uniform citation of violating auto laws, police said.

The remaining occupants were identified and released from the scene, police said.
