Beloved MA Eatery Closing Last Location After 29 Years

BOSTON, MA — A longtime burrito chain will close its last restaurant this fall.

Boloco, the Boston-born burrito chain, will close its final location at 50 Congress St. on Sept. 25. The business announced Tuesday that the building has been sold and is being converted to residential use.

“It’s been a hell of a ride,” the company said in the post.

The downtown building is slated to be converted from office space into 169 homes, including 34 income-restricted units, according to the Boston Planning Department. The project will include a mix of studios, one-bedroom apartments and two-bedroom apartments, according to the department.

The project is part of Boston’s Office-to-Residential Conversion Program, which is on track to convert 31 buildings and 1.5 million square feet of former office space into 1,785 homes, according to the Planning Department.

The company said it plans to mark the final weeks with returning favorites, special requests and other promotions before the closing date.

Boloco, short for Boston Local Company, began in 1997 as Under Wraps before later becoming Boloco, according to Boston.com. At its peak, the chain had 22 locations across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Maryland and Washington, D.C.
