BOSTON, MA — The state on Friday opened six Boston-area ice skating rinks, offering free public skating for the winter months.

Every rink by the Kelly Outdoor Rink in Jamaica Plain opened Friday morning. The Kelly Rink along the Southwest Corridor will open on Dec. 17 if weather permits.

"Every year we are excited to begin the season with our free public skating program, where many come to our ice rinks for the first time to learn to skate, and others participate in fun activities with friends and family," DCR Commissioner Doug Rice said.
