Boston Bruins Name Bruce Cassidy Head Coach
Bruce Cassidy was named the Boston Bruins' 28th head coach, replacing Claude Julien.

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Bruins have named Bruce Cassidy the team's 28th head coach, General Manager Don Sweeney announced Wednesday. Cassidy assumed interim coaching duties following Claude Julien's ousting, leading the Bruins to their first playoff appearance since the 2013-14 season.

The team went 18-8-1 in the regular season after Cassidy took over February 9.

Prior to joining the team as an assistant coach last season, Cassidy coached the Providence Bruins from 2011 to 2016. He led Providence to a 207-128-45 overall record in five seasons.
The 51-year-old Ottawa, Ontario native enjoyed a successful playing career as a defenseman in the NHL, overseas and in smaller leagues in the United States and Canada. He was drafted 18th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in 1983.

Cassidy has also coached for the Chicago Blackhawks and Washington Capitals.
